  • Laminate Wood Not Solid Wood

The mandolin I bought had several buzzes even when I raised the bridge . Which also made the action to gigh to play . Also these mandolins are made out of laminate wood they are by no means solid wood and is not worth the 199.00. I highly doubt Gold Tone would sell these tinker toys for 499.00. Guitar Center sells them for 269.00 If your a beginner pass this one by. Very disappointed .

  • Needed a Good Setup

This mandolin is at the higher end of cheap Chinese instruments. So not pro level, but pretty good. BUT, mine badly need a setup out of the box. Fortunately I have a place around the corner from the GoldTone factory in Titusville, FL and the guys fixed it up for me while I watched. It needed nut and bridge work, but when they were done it really played well. Almost as good as their top of the line solid wood model.
