the postman did get very good reviews when it was released to theaters, and I never really understood why. I have seen far worse movies double its opening weekend. I think it was a lot better than water world anyway.Maybe I'm just bias because I'm a Kevin Costner fan. I like the way he plays the laid back, soft spoken, everyday guy role. As a whole, I think the movie had a decent plot and I'm always a sucker for post-apocalyptic movies. I will admit there were a few corny, lame scenes that should have been left on the cutting room floor, but for the most part the actors performaces were believeable. I really liked the focus on how important communication is in rebuilding a civilization, and I always like movies where the hero is the last guy that wants to be a hero. If the country was really torn apart that badly and there were no forms of communication, someone would have to get things started again, and this movie is an interesting perspective on how that might happen. Throw in a surprise appearence by Tom Petty and you have a movie that is at least worth watching once. Personally I think its Costners best next to Dances with wolves.Read full review
Great movie, Kevin Costner is a great actor in these post apocalyptic style movies.

Movie holds up even in this day and age. Post apocalyptic usually does. Maybe a few overly idealistic scenes, but it all works.
