Buy more features when you replace your interior mirror!
Donnelly brand electrochromatic (dimming) mirrors used by BMW in 2007 and earlier will leak and appear burned. Finding a newer mirror with more features makes far more sense than buying another old one that will fail again.
This one (part #51169174311) came with:
EC = Electrochromatic
Compass = Digital compass display
GTO = Integrated "homelink" remote control/garage door opener
Radio = Convertibles put the FZV antenna inside the mirror (key button receiver,) which is 315 MHz for US cars. Hardtop cars locate this elsewhere.
If your car is a convertible, you will need a mirror from a convertible, or the buttons on your key will stop working.
Confirming the wiring interchangeability of mirrors isn't easy. Cars with certain features use different wire locations in the connector pinout. It seems that most use power and ground at the same pins. Most features are self-contained in the mirror and only need this to operate.
Newer mirrors have bumps on them at the point of contact with the windshield mounting button, which will need to be ground off to mate properly. (Or you can update the button and repeat with every new windshield.)
