Honest Review of This Product
Ok here we go, I read other reviews prior to purchasing this item and I will say that my expectations where definitely high cause I to had dash damage due to the sun's heat, the vehicles vibration, and over all stress at 160,000 miles, how ever when I opened and examined the dash cover I noticed that the manufacturing of this product wasnt really to my over all liking, I say that because around some of edging by the doors R/L flange coming down from the dash vents a razor blade was used to custom cut to its specifications without breaking the edges over needless to say it looked like a cookie cut out, then upon a test fit it scratched up my Bose high speaker close out sides pieces R/L quite a bit more than I realized after it was in, note to self, if you install this be mindful of this issue, but this damage can easily be avoided by taking sand paper to the sharp corners to smooth them over avoiding scratches all together.
Next was that in the manufacturing process they had also used a razor blade to cut part of the vent holes out as well, needless to say I was starting to prefer the cracks in the dash cause of how tacky to me this looked as a presentational piece, if you have this issue as i did you can resculpt your vent hole corners with sandpaper as well to run more along the seem of the vent hole covers.
In some areas minor distortion was present along the nosing of the cover, but I to like another reviewer used a heat gun to shape it to a desired form and it's easily achievable.
Another issue I had was the slotted vent towards the windshield part of this dash cover located in the middle, to me as a cover and not an original part it was unnecessary to go through the trouble to even do this in my opinion, plus I just didnt like the look of it anyways, so I cut mine out and sanded the edges tabs flush, my reasoning for doing this is because this is a 2 part dash assembly, and the secondary piece with the vent in it was not damaged, your might be and you also might want the covers vent addition, I didnt, the only damage i had was to my primary piece, and all my cracks came from the mounting pick ups from under the secondary piece leading to the primary piece, if you've ever popped yours up you'll see where these start from, regardless I was more into the main piece and its simplicity.
Over all I felt that what I was dealing with definitely wasnt what I expected when reading the reviews, so I took it upon myself to wrap it in black vinyl, and to my avail extreme joy came about this project, like seriously, to me this cover makes for a perfect substructure in wrapping it, now I did all these minor modifications knowing I was going to do this in vinyl, otherwise I would have sent it back and delt with the cracks cause I felt it just looked cheap with sharp edges and tacky in what is still a nice truck I have, but wrapping this in vinyl made me appreciate this product alot more than I did when it arrive.
Lastly I chose to opt out of using the adhesive and went with a little adhesive back velcro in a couple corners, it's a dash cover, it's not going anywhere when the doors are shut even with all the windows blow out of it.
I would encourage anyone who purchases this product to understand that with a little time you can make this cover well worth the $70 with some additional attention, this progect took me about 4 hours to do and the vinyl match is spot on with my seats and extremely close to the original dash look, not bad for a Saturday morning.
The product is worth it and priced just right if you know what your doing, if you dont care then so be it, but to all you DIY Interior guys and gals out there this is what your gonna be dealing with if your picky or QA, hope this review and the photos help.
