    I was interested

I was interested in something that I can take with me on short trips and wouldn't take up much room in my suitcase. I liked the adaptability of it being able to support an Mp3 player and that it automatically set time as soon as you plugged it in. I was kind of hoping for a battery back up, but no. There are two alarm settings. It's kind of strange how they set it up, but I guess it works. There is one set of buttons on the left and one on the right. The nature sounds are okay, but for the inexpensive speakers, The display doesn't seem too over bright, and has three settings for that. The radio section seemed to be a second thought, as there isn't much to do about that. The volume up and down goes to 30, which might only be a 10 or 12 with a regular am/fm radio. There is a place for to add an am antenna. So, all in all I guess for a background noise machine, I am willing to give it a try.

Very complicated. Blinding light at night trying to sleep.

Once I got this item running, it took 45 minutes to figure out even with instructions and I still can't figure out how to adjust alarm volume so I gave up, it lit up like a bare bulb. Even in the "low" mode, it emits a harsh blue light on me in the bed. If you turn off the display and wake up in middle of night, you have to manually turn on the light so you can see the time. This clock is really for the birds, and appropriately enough it makes bird sounds to wake up by. You won't need them however because you'll be kept awake at night thinking about how your money was wasted on this inferior product. Maybe I can sell it for a couple of bucks on craigslist. I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to buy one of these if they actually saw it in person. To add insult, the seller advertised a price with "shipping included" but the package came $5.98 postage due, more money down the drain. Note: Seller has since refunded all my money, so I highly recommend this ethical and buyer friendly seller, a great guy. I'm fed up and went back to my old clock, at least it works and doesn't blind me while trying to sleep. Oh, almost forgot. This has an antennae that you have to manually place in the right position to get AM reception, AFTER you hook up the bare wires to the connector on the back of the clock. Can you believe SONY would make such a dud? I only gave it one star because you can't give zero, too bad in this case. It's a zero, definitely not a hero!

  • sony ICF-C707 clock radio alarm/nature sounds

The Sony unit has many features not available on other clock radios, such as dual alarms, good AM/FM reception, and nature sounds. The date/time set, radio preset and selection is not easy to use. The clear display of time and temperature is a plus with it's brightness selection.

  • Well-made with good features--can be difficult to read.

It's a solid alarm clock and easy to use. I love the nature sounds alarm. The backlit display can be awfully bright even on the low setting and still difficult to read from certain angles when the room lights are off. I prefer the old style alarm clock displays.

  • Good bedside clock radio

I was impreseed with the utility of this little clock radio. It does not take up very much space on the table top, the FM reception is clear and strong. It one has one speaker but it puts out clear mono volume. The background sounds are a nice feature that I have not been accustomed to before. The buttons are well placed and easy to reach in the dark. The unit is so small it is no problem to pick it up with one hand to check the time or set which is an unexpected feature.

  • Small but does the job.

This is a small radio alarm clock that gives good reception and is relatively easy to use once you read the instruction manual. It has 2 antennae, one for AM and one for FM that are not built-in but can be located and oriented separately from the radio to obtain the best reception. The sound is acceptable for the intended use but it is not exceptional. Overall, it is a good value for the price. I would recommend it for anyone needing a bedside alarm clock radio.

  • Mixed review

I love the presets and white noise features. And you can connect an external device. I had to download the user's manual because setting the stations, alarms, date/time, etc. is tricky, but doable--not intuitive and not like older Dream Machine models. The factory pre-set on the time of day was off by a couple minutes, but could be changed. The display is too bright at night, and has poor contrast between the digits and background. It's a good Sony product, but not ideal.

  • Love this clock!

I love this clock because it had everything I wanted in an alarm clock. It's small, it has nature sounds and a radio, it has an adjustable screen light, you can set two alarms and it has a five day alarm setting. This was new to me and seemed like an obvious feature for an alarm clock! Setting it up took a while, but was doable with some time and patience. It didn't come with instructions, but you can find them off the internet.

  • Programming nightmare in a convenient size

Seemingly, during the design phase of this clock radio, the Sony engineers were intoxicated by either euphorics or by their own geekdom and have obviously never used their own product. The display casts a room-filling, sleep-depriving blue glare even when the display is set to low. Of course when the back-light is shut off, the clock is rendered useless at night, wrong. Setting the wake time is maddening via the six-plus button-pushing routines for either A or B wake times to include the complexities of radio, buzzer or nature sounds, weekdays, weekends or even time-zone specifics. The auxiliary input plug is nifty but useless (who's going to leave their input device running 24/7?), but also the plug does not fit into it's storage slot in the base of the unit thus causing a rocking, resting-instability for all further button selection attempts, double-wrong. Though the nature sounds are unique, the output speaker is substandard sounding like well, a cheap clock radio facsimile of a nature "sound". Speaking of which, the wake volume of whatever sound you've selected is different than the operational volume and is set via an additional myriad of button sequences. This clock is delegated to basement shelf fodder in my household. I won't torment anyone else with a resale. Nice packaging though.

  • good product for the money

Good reception on radio. Like having temperature at a glance. The nature sounds are nice but not exceptionally clear at lower volume. Good to have two settings for brightness of display. Both alarms work as stated. Not use to setting up all the options on alarm so have to refer back to manual each time, so not so easy to use. Still a good quality product though, for the price.
