This 12-inch action figure is designed to resemble an American officer during wartime, and is a World War II Special Forces limited edition. Made as realistically as possible, this commanding officer comes complete with full uniform of an officer’s hat, cap, jacket, trousers, socks, and boots. Enjoy the fine details of this figure, such as the included special dog tags, flare gun, knife, and pistol. G.I. Joe is the original real American hero. Originally released in 1998, this Hasbro G.I. Joe PT-Boat Commander figure comes in a box that includes a story on the inside flap describing the history of PT boats. An excerpt of the story says, “The story behind PT Boats started moments after the Japanese began attacking Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. A United States PT Boat stationed there shot down the first enemy plane of World War II. From that moment forward, "patrol torpedo" crafts and their commanders played a significant role in the success of U.S. naval operations throughout the duration of the conflict. These boats proved to be essential to Allied efforts to reclaim the Pacific from Japan’s Imperial war machine. The number of operational PT Boats increased from 29 in December 1941 to 212 within the span of a few years. The effectiveness of these small vessels was known all too well by the Japanese, who came to fear and despise the boats they called "devil boats" or "green dragons...” Historically, the PT-109 was a PT boat last commanded by Lieutenant John F. Kennedy, who later became president of the United States. Kennedy’s actions to save his crew after the PT-109 was sunk made him a war hero, which proved helpful in his later political career. The rifle included with the Hasbro G.I. Joe PT-Boat Commander is most likely a Thompson Submachine-Gun, Model 1928. This Hasbro G.I. Needs dress whites uniform of a Naval Lieutenant
The PT Commander GI Joe Action Figure is what you see on the box artwork. He has long sleeves on his uniforms to protect him from the tropical sun. I like the look of the sunglasses on GI Joe officers, but you can't see the guy's face with the sunglasses on -- you might miss the nice job on the face sculpt for this character. What is missing from this lieutenant is a dress whites uniform of a true naval officer.
