Searching for something as dependable and functional as incadescents, that uses less power
After buying several of these style bulbs, I'm satisfied with the performance and cost. I've been using these outdoors and in non climate controlled buildings that needed brighter and more dependable light, but don't need $$$ lighting systems.
The previous tube fluorescents and high watt CFLs were slow to ignite in low temperatures (freezing temps and lower) or wouldn't ignite at all after just a year. The LEDs light instantaneously in cold weather. The cost of replacement tube fluorescent units wasn't sensible and LED tube lights are still too expensive for a total conversion with my current needs.
These LED 'corn' lights have been dependable and very bright, while using less power. The omnidirectional pattern is much better at general lighting than fixtures that are more suited to work directly under. For a garage light they're great. A more directional pattern would be better over a work bench. I have a lower watt version of these on motion activated porch lights, and they're much brighter than any other bulb I've used and have been working flawlessly.
