He had destroyed his punchcards and changed his face. There was no credit card, birth record, or passport for him in the International Data Bank. His names were many...any he chose. His occupation was taking megarisks in the service of a vast global detective agency. His interworld assignments were highly lucrative, incalculably vital, and terrifyingly deadly. And more often then not, his life was a living hell!

  • For all fans of Sci Fi history, and even if you don't care about the evolution of the genre - still a great story

Although some of this story is dated (it happens to all older sci fi) it's still a great story. And the fact that it was written by a black man at a time when sci fi writers were almost exclusively white men makes it a unique little jewel in the sci fi canon. There were times I wondered if the author, who was a podigy, wasn't being just a little too clever and intellectually pretentious - but it could be, he was just that smart and felt no need to dumb it down.
