For all fans of Sci Fi history, and even if you don't care about the evolution of the genre - still a great story
Although some of this story is dated (it happens to all older sci fi) it's still a great story. And the fact that it was written by a black man at a time when sci fi writers were almost exclusively white men makes it a unique little jewel in the sci fi canon. There were times I wondered if the author, who was a podigy, wasn't being just a little too clever and intellectually pretentious - but it could be, he was just that smart and felt no need to dumb it down.
