I've only had the unit for a few weeks now, so I can't speak to its long term reliability. But I've been using it half a dozen times a day and it's been functioning quite well. Design Over Function. Way over function.
Now, for a key kitchen appliance, one might favor a design that makes functions highly visible and so easily accessible. You would not imprint GRAY letters in tiny (6 point?) type on a shiny black glass. Oh so trendy. So very, very sleek. Oh, how sensible if a flashlight were tethered to make the legends visible. As for Reheat. Coffee. No, not using the reheat function. I guess one become accustomed to the required time to avoid scalding one's pallet.
