I am new to playing any instrument and picked up a clarinet 6 months ago and as much as I enjoyed learning to play my thumb constantly hurt from holding the clarinet and the neck strap felt awkward. This thumb rest makes it so much easier to hold the clarinet. The holes to mount it pretty much lined up with my Yamaha YCL-255 to make the installation easy. The screws were tight but with a little effort they screwed in. A little bit expensive but well worth it to me for the comfort it gives.

I have used the Maestro Kooiman Thumbrest, The Etude 3 is not anywhere as ergonomic as the more expensive model. The thumb hook sets wrong on my thumb, and pulls the right hand out of optimum position. I actually broke it trying to adjust it to a comfortable fit on my right thumb. I have pulled my old Maestro off my Buffet clarinet to use on my current favorite - my Backun.

Saw this used by leader of Air Force Academy woodwind ensemble. It permits easier movement of lower fingers and avoids the callous on my right thumb. The one caveat is this did require some epoxy to secure base plate to instrument.

Great product. Easy to assemble. Made an immediate and extremely significant reduction in the stress on the right thumb and wrist. Love that it detaches so that the clarinet can be stored in its case for travel or when not in use. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

Finally a product that works as offered! I purchased my thumb rest to help ease the pain in my hand that creeps in during practice. Installation was no problem: unscrew my old thumb rest and screw in the new one. So much easier and more comfortable than the neck strap and padded rest I was trying to use before. Now I can lower my horn to my lap between numbers instead of always having it around my neck.
