What a wonderful way Mary intertwines stories of her childhood living in Cuba before the revolution, each tied to the memories of great Cuban dishes. I just couldn't put the book down, except for short trips to the kitchen!

I am new to Cuban cooking so I'm not sure this collection of recipes is a fair representation of the cuisine. There seems to be redundancy in ingredients, especially with sofritos, and many of the recipes include sofritos. I appreciate narrative on a recipe's origin, ethnic and regional influences, etc. but the time and text spent sharing family stories and photos was a bit of overkill. In fairness though, the book is titled "Memories" of a Cuban Kitchen. There are maybe a couple dozen photos, none though of the prepared recipes.

This is a fantastic cookbook with easy, authentic Cuban recipes. The author grew up in Miami so if you love the Cuban food in Miami- this is the book for you. I had tried other Cuban cookbooks but the recipes never tasted like the food I grew up with in Miami. If I could only get one cookbook I would get this one. This has the best and most variety of recipes, most authentic taste, and doesn't have a lot of "Fluff" in it. Other Cuban cookbooks include dishes that are either not really Cuban or have been "Americanized" which changes the whole taste! My second choice for Cuban cookbooks is the two from The three guys from Miami. They have great recipes as well but as far as ingredient lists and cooking techniques they have "Americanized" their books a bit. THIS book is great with authentic cooking techniqies, ingredients, etc. Also, the price can't be beat-Three guys is 30.00- this is 17.00. Well worth it!!Read full review
