Garmin Nuvi 2789LMT Review
I didn't realize just how state of the art this new navigator is until I used it for a couple of months. It can be Plug & Play just like previous models. If you want to go somewhere you never been before you judt touch the "Where to?" Icon. Then enter the address number, hit next, enter street name, hit next, enter City name. If it hasn't found the location before address and street (usually it presents several on screen locations, one of which may be yours which saves entering the rest of the info) and you just press the location on the screen. After it acquires the proper amount of GPS Satellites, it willdisplay and verbally announce "Ready to Navigate". Press the screen and from your home it will say "Follow the highlighted route which is usually backing out of your driveway. Previously you had pressed the home address Icon and either entered the home address, Or, This one will find your home location by GPS, ask if this is your home or provide close address. Pick yours and your home location is entered. An awesome feature is Voice Command. You teach it to recognize you voice. The default is to say "Voice Command". It wakes up. Then you can say where you wan't to go in or of State, City and address. If you don't know the address simply say what it is. I live in Arizona. I can say "Voice Command" Arizona, Glendale, Sams Club". It will find Sams Club in Glendale. Don't know the city? Just say "Arizona, Sams Club." All Sams clubs in Arizona will be shown along with distance and time. Choose on and be on you way. Need gas? Just say what you want. "Show GasStation shows all close by or be specific and say "Shell Gas Stations. The closest will be displayed. Same for places to eat or whatever you want. There are also Icons available but if you are doing 65 MPH you don't want to be messing around with buttons! You have choices up the you know what. A nearly fool-proof Navigation screen with clear and loud voice commands (adjustable volume and choice of voice and language types. If you make a mistake in your navigation on the freeway, don't panic as corrections to get you back on track are almost immediate. Just relax and it will tell you where to turn, how far to go before you make the turn and 100FT before you need to turn. Map updates are by email and free for the life of ownership. This unit has all the features I wanted. Works flawlessly.
This unit replaced a Garmin of the same generation This one can receive Bluetooth signals from Garmin's BC 30 backup camera - the other one couldn't. My bicycle rack obscured the car's built-in camera. Like every other Garmin I've used it performs flawlessly - does everything it claims. It feels like it takes a tad longer to acquire satellites, but still acceptable. I was a bit surprised that it doesn't accept voice commands, but that may be because I loaded the maps directly on the device and not onto a memory card. Great unit-large bright display
Great unit-large bright display. It's actually so large it can block part of your vision if you don't position it low. Touch pad works great. I like the auto-suggest on street names. Had a 10 year old one-this one is very similar in operation-just took it out of the box, plugged it in and it worked. Would have been ok if it had not been defective.
It had a memory problem that prevented it from updating the maps. This rendered it unusable. Had it not had the memory problem then it would have been a 4 star.
