You can relax in knowing that you will always be able to keep an eye on things with a Belkin NetCam. This Wi-Fi security camera provides extra protection while you are away from the house. It is available in two models: the NetCam with night vision and the HD NetCam with glass lens and night vision. The latter model boasts 720p high definition, and the glass lens allows for a clear, crisp view of what is going on. All you need to get these cameras up and running is a working Wi-Fi connection. You can plug this camera in and connect it to Apple devices running iOS 4.1 or above as well as an Android smart device with at least a 2.2 version or above. Just download the app from the app store or Google Play. In addition to viewing on a mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone, you can also view the video on a computer by accessing the Belkin website on a web browser. Through the website, you can manage user accounts, invite friends to view your camera feed, create alerts, add additional cameras, upgrade camera firmware, and view live streaming of home security through this Belkin NetCam. Using the WeMo app on your iPhone or other mobile device lets you control many home electronics remotely. Belkin premium services allow you to record and store videos to the cloud for future viewing or for archiving purposes. If storing endless recordings is not of interest, this device features movement detection alerts that notify you when motion has been detected within the camera's range. You can customize the sensitivity for the motion detection alerts in the event you do not want to be disturbed with alerts caused inadvertently by dust particles for example. It comes with a wide angle format to give you a view of the entire room. This camera is just over seven inches tall, which makes it easy to place virtually anywhere in your home or office. Since it weighs just over 15 ounces, wall mounting is feasible. The digital audio lets you hear everything that is going on in your home. With a front mounted microphone, audio within the room is easily detected. Multiple users can access video feed. Just enter the email of your friends or family and an invitation will be sent to them to share access. Whether you need to check on your home or office, this Wi-Fi cam is easy to set up and allows you to view live streaming from the convenience of your mobile phone, tablet, or desktop. Setting up the NetCam can be simple. Once you position it in your location of choice and plug in the power supply, you simply click the button on the back of the camera to setup mode, download the application onto your smartphone, connect to the camera, and then connect to your wireless internet. Create a user profile, name the NetCam, customize your settings, and lastly, flip the switch on the back of the camera off of setup mode, and your NetCam can be ready to go. Product is good, but the directions on set up leave a little to be desired.
The product, once installed is great. However, you need a lot of patience to hook this up. I had to contact Belkin twice. What I can tell you is that I thought contacting Belkin would be a complete nightmare, but I was pleasantly surprised. They were wonderful. I could understand them "clearly" and they went above and beyond to help me. Good camera but the proprietary software ruins it.
Pros: Easy to setup and use, the instructions are easy to follow. (You need an android or iOS device to do the setup) The software is *fairly* quick and responsive. Controls and settings are easy and straightforward. Cons: The major features of the software require a subscription, namely motion capture video. For most people this is the biggest thing you look for. While I can understand having a paid service for it that would ONLY be if you have the option to use your own local server. That said if you care about privacy, don't get this camera, there is no option to take it off the WAN. Some open source software says you can set it up with it, but I've tried a few and none work without 2 active NICs, not something the average user would have or be able to setup easily. And even then it leaves the cameras wifi OPEN to anyone in range. Frustration!
These cameras are a great idea if your close by to reset everytime they go offline. Not reliable. Camera's dont pick up night vision well at all, pretty much useless after dark. Once they fix the issues with system, they'll be great. Be careful where you place these as anyone can access your account and view what youre viewing.
