Not wanting to spend $500-$1000 on a motorcycle GPS, I did some research and came up with the Nuvi 1490 as a viable option. Sure, it isn't waterproof, and doesn't have all the shock resistance, but it seemed to offer a number of the other benefits a motorcyclist uses. Specifically, I was looking for a unit that worked with Garmin Basecamp software so that I could create and import trips...which this one does. I also wanted a nice large glare-resistant screen. It seems to be about the same size as the Zumo 660. I also wanted one that showed the speed limit. My wife's car GPS doesn't have this option, but mine does. It's a feature I like in my car, which this one has also. And I wanted Bluetooth so that I could hear the turn-by-turn directions through my Sena Bluetooth helmet headset. Sadly, I have discovered that although this does have Bluetooth, it ONLY connects with smartphones! What's up with that?!? Oh well, I'm surviving without it. But that's the only reason I gave it 4 stars. When you read on the Specs sheet that a product has Bluetooth, you assume that includes the full capabilities of Bluetooth. Why in the world would they put a crippled version in there that only connected with some devices and not others?!? And if they do that, why would they not stipulate that on the Specs list or in the item description? Oh well, other than that, I'm very pleased with my purchase. I bought a used unit, plus a RAM mount for my motorcycle, for under $50! Can't beat that for value!!! Read full review

1. the main issue is it is not useable that is the complaint that gets that mark 2 going on to Garmin.express ,, and plugging it into a MacBook pro with a usb cord,, to try and upload maps, or what ever upload,, It would not recognize the unit 3. perhaps a micro sd card is not present, it would be nice if one could buy the most uptodate maps loaded on a microsd card which could then be updated, but this is only my imagination at this time it is totally unusable , it seems to see where i am but can not find San Francisco , Maybe it is in Iowa,, nothing in settings to clear it. Not a response from Garmin

Having owned numerous Garmin GPS prior, I was(and am) extremely satisfied. Despite the fact that I purchased it used it performs flawlessly. Any questions and/or assistance from the CSA staff at Garmin could not be more helpful and pleasant. Knowing that this particular model has been discontinued I purchased it because of a feature it has that has been removed from newer models. Not a question in my mind if I will purchase other Garmin products if/or when I do, In fact,I already have another one of this particular model on its way to me via USPS. Thank You GARMIN

Great addition to travel with. Touch screen is a bit "slow" unresponsive. Voice is very helpful. Battery doesn't last long before the charger has to be plugged in. Overall, it gets us where we want to goto. I like the large screen and it's overall functions.
I just need a simple GPS with relatively current maps and a speedometer, nice size screen, the touch screen could be a little more responsive, other than that it satisfies my needs.
