The thing that stood out the most about this CD the first time I played it was how serious the lyrics and music seem. In fact, it comes across as almost being sad. Look up the lyrics to The Man Who Loved Beer. See what I mean? David Byrne does everything well and this is no exception. The more you digest it the more satisified you feal. One thing is for sure, it's not going to be a big hit at your next dance party. 5 Huge Stars.
This album develops melodic themes touched on by the Talking Heads and Byrne in earlier albums. It is a mellow and down right easy listening album. An interesting development, but not at the level of the later Talking Heads albums (remain in light, blind, etc.) Nor does it contain any of the catchy beats of the Tom Tom Club, it is a definate departure from most Byrne efforts.
