I bought this lens to use on my Sony a6000 with LA-EA2 adapter. It is now my favorite lens. Image quality is very sharp although I have seen slightly sharper images on other lenses. The lens paired with the adapter adds quite a bit of weight to the camera so I do use a tripod most of the time. Using it handheld is pretty easy since the adapter creates an extra place to grip the camera. You will have to be aware and careful when using this lens since the auto focus ring at the end of the lens turns by itself. You can easily have your fingers in the wrong place when the lens is trying to focus. The motor does make some noise but not enough to be annoying. It has very fast focus even on the adapter and rarely takes a bad photo. Definitely a good purchase.

I bought this lens to use on my three Pentax DSLR camera bodies. I also own the Pentax DA* 16-50mm f2.8 lens but have found it to be heavier than I'm comfortable with for day-long carrying. The Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f2.8 has proved to be an excellent replacement - it's lighter, smaller, and balances nicely on my cameras. The image quality is excellent, even better than the Pentax lens at wide-open or near wide-open apertures. Of course the Tamron is a lot less expensive as well. I highly recommend this lens to anyone who is looking for a fast, reasonably priced all-purpose zoom lens but does not need the weather sealing and/or SDM focusing of the Penatx DA* 16-50.
You can find used copies of this lens for under $300... A great price for a zoom lens with constant 2.8 aperture. It's good a nicely balanced size and weight, though the build quality can feel a bit on the cheap side. Overall, it's an all-around upgrade from the kit lens, but not really a massive step up. If I'm shooting at 50mm, I'd rather use my 50mm prime lens, than this lens. Colors are a bit muted, but image sharpness is good. It's a useful outdoor wide angle lens (unless you want ultra-wide angle), and indoor portrait lens.
Smooth, quiet, fast, lightweight. F/2.8 throughout provides open aperture for low indoor available light shots, greater control over depth of field. Auto focus is amazingly fast and accurate. Focal length replaces kit lens. (I purchased Sony SLT body only). Tamron does not use stabilization with Sony because the body has Steady-Shot Inside. The combination works great. Without going technical, no visible noise or aberration in P/P work. Also have Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di USD. Will soon add 60mm F2.0 Macro. Highly recommend Tamron lenses.
This is the second time I buy this lens. Its optical performance is excellent. It is well built and autofocus is fast. Opens at F2.8 on the entire range. It is very sharp even at full aperture. It is an excellent value. The only drawback of this lens is that is it poorly sealed, and it will suck up dust, so it should not be used in very dusty environments, as dust will get inside the lens and between the glass elements, and this is not a lens easy to disassemble and clean (some glass elements are glued in place). This is how I trashed my first copy of this lens....
