All that I had hoped
Build quality is exemplary. Image quality is as well. 2 Chanel sound is also leagues ahead. Why spend more to get this over the 820? For me there were a few reasons. 1. I'm genuinely not sure how much longer blue ray players are going to be made, so thinking this may be the last one, I wanted one that would be robust enough stand the test of time. 2. Having a projector, I wanted the HDR optimiser options specifically for projectors. They only exist on this model. 3. I wanted to be able to genuinely use this to also play my CDs to a high level. At the very least, I thought the rigidity and build would make this a decent CD transport. I was not wrong, using the digital outputs through the DAC in my Audiolab 6000a amp, the sound is fantastic, however I was really surprised at how good the player sounded itself with CDs (i.e. using its own DAC and connecting to the amp using phono cables). So much so that connecting both ways and switching between the 2 has not yielded an obvious winner. So when you combine the cost of having a top of the range uhd blue ray player with a hifi cd player and the bombproof build quality, the price starts to look less silly.
