Samples are real thread like the older version I have. Definately better presentation the updated version is bound around patch in a better display. Old version had threads anchored at one end of sample and other end flared loose that tended to distort in time

The color chart with REAL DMC thread is a MUST HAVE for any stitcher. It has the 454 + 35 NEW solid colors, 18 variegated DMC Six-Strand Floss colors, as well as pearl cotton, mouline special, mouline effects and pearl metals. If you lost your DMC number this guide will easily get you back on track in finding the correct number. The floss numbers are displayed prominently next to each floss sample. DMC also makes these color charts with printed DMC numbers, they are NOTHING compared to having this one where real floss samples are in it. If you had the choice between those 2, go for the one with the real thread, printed colors tend to be inaccurate with their true color representation. This guide is easily divided in the color hues and you will be able to narrow down your search very quickly. It also has served me in the past as a guide for projects on hand-dyed fabric and where I changed up colors from a pattern.
