Bought this model so I could use micro-HDMI port to mirror display to "big screen" to instruct Sunday School students on Kindle Fire use. It's not ideal due to lack of microSD port and operating system differences, but it serves my purpose .

This was my third Kindle. The second lasted a little over a year before it died while I was on vacation, which was a strange coincidence, since the first one also malfunctioned while I was on vacation! (It lost the ability to pick up wifi.) I wanted to keep this particular model because I didn't want to have to buy a new case for it. Well, this particular model worked fine for about 3 months. Now it freezes up and I have to shut it down and reboot. ALL THE TIME. I am extremely disappointed! That said, I still plan to upgrade to the 8" Kindle in hopes the bugs have been worked out. I just hate the idea of learning a whole new system if I go to an iPad or tablet by another company. Fingers crossed.

I purchased this as a used unit, slightly scratched. I have no Idea as to how it was previously used or cared for. Cosmetically, it was good looking. I have no experience with tablets, but this is doing more than I need at this time. I use it mostly for lyrics that I write as a songwriter. These are not online, so it's hard to get on some tablets. I just email to the cloud, and it's there! I tried to write on a "word" app, but it's clumsy with all the auto correct and second guessing my intentions. I don't think it will ever replace a laptop, but as far as casual surfing and email, words with friends etc., it seems to do well. Still concerned about battery consumption, and how to optimize for longer use. I assume less stuff installed would help, just load as you need? They have many free apps that I've enjoyed but should probably remove after using. Books and Magazines are very nice to read and browse, and quite interactive! The web is pretty much full function on most everything. The unit is a 2012 model which is about 2 years old at the time of this review, but new to me. I did have to figure the year out on my own to buy an after-market cover. Wish it could be better identified to differentiate from all the other Kindle Fire HD7's! There are many years/models/configures using the same name. I think batteries drain looking for Wi-Fi if roaming.Read full review
The Kindle Fire Hd is a nice little tablet that is great for watching videos and games. I had to root the Kindle before I could access the Google Play Store but It is worth the 30 minutes to have full control of it. I am not to thrilled with the amazon UI and I think I may flash my own rom but for an average user I would say it would be fine. If you just want to search the web, read your kindle books, listen to music, watch videos then stock out of the box is for you. Just keep in mind that this device comes out of the box locked for Amazon ONLY! If you want more functionality or ability to customize it then you need to root this device or just get a different device.
Kindle Fire HD 7, my personal review. STORAGE This particular model is the 16 Gigabyte model, which to me, even though I do a lot of media: pictures, videos, etc, is plenty of storage. I have about 30 app loaded on my Kindle Fire HD, approx 200 songs, and 100 JPG's, and I'm still not to the halfway point of my storage capacity. EASE OF USE The Ease of Use category for the Kindle Fire scored high with me. It runs a version of Android Gingerbread operating system, but with a .apk limitations of using the tension .kdl instead. Once you get over the slight learning curve using the Amazon Marketplace (if you're not already familiar with it), the platform is pretty straight forward and self explanatory. the applications screen is the first screen you come to (after initial setup). All of your apps are displayed in a "carousel" of icons type display, with you 'favorites' easily accessible from the bottom of almost all screens. The categories of the short cuts are mixed together such as apps, bookmarks, and recent history. Apps are very simple to uninstall and delete as well. CONNECTION The Kindle Fire HD is capable of WiFi, bluetooth, and MTP connections. I thought they could have made Android Phones more compatible, since it is running an open source Android OS. The Kindle Fire is Not capable of mobile data, but VOIOC is possible. RESOLUTION The screen resolution is outstanding, no question is high definition. Very compatible with Netflix and Hulu, but not so much with flash and java while in the Silk browser that comes stock on the device (to which I have found no alternative, free or paid that will run on this system) CAMERA The camera has something to be desired, especially since it does not come with a camera program. It has one front facing approx 3mp cam with no flash or auto-focus. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT Since like I mentioned the Kindle does run the Android operating system, it does not support Google Play and most of the apps in it. Plus many many more apps cost, even the ones free in Google Play.Read full review
This very good to have Kindle fire under the $99. It's enough size to watch the movie in the car or in the plane. - Pros: 1. Battery life is longer than my expectation. (I can watch TV series more than 5 hours even after 2 month) 2. LCD quality : Fully enough to watch the HD quality TV. 3. Very good if you're Amazon PRIME member. 4. It's very good deal with the current price. - Cons: 1. Key is very small in outside and it's difficult to click. 2. Some Apps are not free in Kindle version. 3. There're no camera in outside. Only for self camera.
This might as well have been new off the shelf. It seems in perfect condition to me with great battery life and no scratches anywhere. I'm thinking maybe it is a "2nd" as the input for the charger is at a slight angle that causes the plug to bump the leather case a little. Zero issue there. It also came completely ready to register. Love it and couldn't have asked for better especially for the amazing price. it is a "Special Offer" model meaning that the first screen is one advertising something. Also zero issue. Just swipe on by it. Every tablet has an opening screen of some sort. This one just happens to be an advertisement. One or two of the ads - generally for electronic related stuff like games or accessories - have even been of interest to me. The words "Must See" roped me in, and I wasn't disappointed.Read full review

I begin each review by reminding all that the purchase of a complicated (if not expensive) electronic device requires a strategy or point of view reflecting one's resources and life style. If you do not have all the money in the world, why buy a Samsung Galaxy 4 when a Galaxy 2 does most of what is possible with a smart phone. That leads to the Ebay resale market. The current model for Kindle is the HDX. So it is logical to go back one model to see what the HD can do. In a word, it does most of what the HDX can do at about $100 less. (However, check out recent price cuts on the Amazon site.) The display is much sharper than an Ipad and more similar to the dazzling display on the Galaxy 4. It is marvelous for ageing eyes. It has a standard wi-fi connection and is just as easy to use as an Ipad and you can use any browser including their propriety Silk. No problems setting up or using Gmail, Google docs and Twitter. The apps store is adequate and you can get most of the useful stuff that you can get from the Itunes store. (Anything from a flashlight to games.) So, functionally, this model is not only a HDX but also an Ipad IF you are reasonably knowledgeable about internet basics and you do not demand the top dollar model of everything. However, a general caveat on discontinued models. Although you can get generic accessories on Ebay, be prepared to kiss off the item if it goes sour. It will not pay to try and repair it and the expertise to repair a discontinued model is limited to large urban areas.Read full review
I am a book reader and this device was reluctantly 'tried'. Well, sure glad I did. It will never replace a book but it lets me devour reads that are not shelf worthy. I guess the best thing about it is the compact size, I can bring along a pile of reads in a tiny little package. My plan is, if I find a good read I can buy a paper version for the shelf. * can't comment on the battery life as yet.

To clarify, I am reviewing the 2012 7" Kindle Fire HD. The unit works well, and has a nice display. I bought this unit for my college aged daughter to use at school & she loves it. I have had an ipad for over 4 years and prefer the ipad over the kindle. Maybe since I'm older, and have had an ipad so long but the ipad seems much easier to use. I would recommend that any ipad user try one of these out before buying to see if you like it.
