BIG Kindle=BIG Entertainment
Having experienced the smaller versions and been quite satisfied, I wanted to try the larger screen for movie watching and Hidden Object games. This Kindle delivered that and more. Inititially I wasn't sure I wanted a Kindle because I want to keep printed books around for a long time. My daughter gave me a 7 HD for Christmas several years ago and I fell under it's spell immediately. Because I was having many doctor's appointments and tests, my BFF gave me the small 6 HD last year for Christmas and it was very convenient to take and go most places. Now I have the 8.9 HD and have a Kindle for every occasion when friends aren't borrowing one or the other. I have a terrific daughter and BFFand love them dearly for bringing the Kindle experience into my life. Whatever size you might decide on, each offers more than just reading. You can play games, shop, read e-mail, access social media, take pictures and send those pictures, skype with friends, listen to music, watch tv or movies. .they are Android platforms so thousands of apps will work on them. Plus you have ample storage in your Cloud for all those books you want to read, movies, magazines, albums, games and apps. Just keep what you want to access at the moment on the device and swap items in and out of your Cloud and never worry about not having enough space. One advantage to have more than one Kindle is that one is always charged up and ready to go when you are. Awesome screen, good sound but troublesome...
First off these Kindles have just incredible screens, sharp and vibrant they are even superior to the excellent IPad screens! They also blow away IPads in the sound department. Clear and fairly loud (as far as tablets go) with great stereo separation. However it has some big weaknesses as well. The internet, for some reason it seems to have a difficult time to sign on to wi-fi. It sees the spots but just seems to be unable to connect. Also not only is the internet slow but it slows down the machine as well. I wish they had put as much work into the software as they did the hardware, it’s a crime to see a beautiful machine like this hobbled. You are also limited to the Kindle universe but for most people that won’t be a problem. If it is you can always jailbreak it. The Kindle Fire HD is like having your own library in your hands. What took me years & a lot of time & money to assemble in hard copy was largely recreated in a few days on Kindle. Additionally, you can highlight text & share it on Social Media, a big plus. You can store PDF's as well, images, and even games. GREAT looks, value, and speed.
GREAT, I am not a book reader, I bought this after seeing the picture quality on the one that I bought for my wife. It looks incredible, I surf the net, play games, and watch video on it. While its true that the Kindle has no micro SD card slot the 32 Gb holds a lot and if you need more it offers you Google cloud drive so there is no problem with storage space. A great device for everyday use!
I take it with me to work to keep up with the news and weather. I listen to music on it when I work in my home office. It is a great companion and works very well. Kindle is okay. The only problem is it is out dated and previous app I had on it are no longer available. It need to be updated.Some sites silk browser does not work . This is a solid buy. I just wanted something to use for reading books and playing games. The big screen is great for books. This version also has a blue screen blocker that blocks blue light and is good for the eyes. I asleep in no time with that on. For reading, 8.9 2nt gen is best.
If you plan to use a Kindle primarily for reading books, the Kindle 8.9 2nd generation is an excellent choice. Some of the later versions and generations may be better or other tasks, but are not as good for reading Kindle books. I have later versions, but often choose 8.9 2nd generation.
