Risky Laptop to Buy
Many of these 1420s had serious issues with the video. The problem is not related to the display panel but rather the nVidia chip on the motherboard. Learn more by doing a web search for this model and "video".

Dell Inspiron 1420 14.1 inch
Avoid this model if you can, or look for models within this series with an Intel video chip. Otherwise you will be stuck with a defective Nvidia video chip that will fail due to overheating sooner or later. Once that happens you will need to replace your entire motherboard with an alternative Intel video chip. Not fun!
