    Look Through Rose Colored Glasses

To be clear. This film is a gay porn feature from the 70's. It is fairly typical for that era. In that, the filming and production reflects the low budget. So does the acting and directing. Don't get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is campy and fun. As with other movies of the era, it is supposed to have a "moral" grounding in order to try and avoid any potential legal problems. In this case, the morality came from the alleged innocence of the heroes and their love for each other as they face the "bad guys". If you want to take a journey down memory lane, this film is for you. It is not anything like the bare knuckles (and everything else), harsh images often found in today's adult films. There is some gentility and attempts at some sincerity with the characters and film itself. It is a look through rose colored glasses.

OK especially if interested in gay her8tage

This film of nearly a half-century ago is one of the earliest attempts at making a gay positive film· While the writing and acting is stilted, the production quality somewhat crude, and the ethos very much reflects the 70's -- psychedelic mushrooms, Indian medicine man (the guru) -- it is an important film in the developing queer liberation story · I found the music especially annoying; it drowned out the plot, and was not well coordinated with the action· My dvd appears to have been copied direct from film (no tape), has odd stop motion pauses, perhaps when film reels were changed? No native Americans in this film! No scruffy mountain men either; all clean shaven anglos -- a true depiction of the American West of the nineteenth century.

  • Memories...

I had read a three-book 'Loon' trilogy back in the 70's. Didn't know there was a film of it. Pleasant random surprise listing. Thanx so much.

  • Rare and hard to find!

Not a great print of the film probably exists.this was as good as you are going to find/- and finding it is not easy because it is an obscure not well known film to begin with! So if you are interested buy it because you may not get another chance!!

  • Queer History (also read the book)

It’s history. Regardless of the poor transfer quality (not the sellers fault), low budget and issues with the production of the film it was groundbreaking at the time. Highly recommend reading the book “Song of the Loon” that it was adapted from for a better perspective of what the filmmaker was trying to achieve.

  • Don’t waste your time

Even though this was the first Brokeback Mointain the plot is nonsensical and the quality of the transfer is so atrocious it is very hard to watch. Don’t buy it and just let your imagination of what film could have been be enough.

  • Groundbreaking!

Good film with a good story. It is groundbreaking and is the forerunner of many gay themed films which followed up to the present day. Quality of picture and sound is acceptable. Acting is good, but sometimes stilted. Worth watching at least once.

  • Nice secenery

This was one of the first gay paperbacks that I read. Didn't know there was a movie . Guess I was expecting more than what a movie at that time would have.

  • The Movie Stunk!

what a disappointment! This movie is not representative of the book, "Song of the Loon". It's scenery is beautiful, but that's as close to the book as the movie becomes. The feel of the book is completely omitted. The two stars are just for scenery, which became boring as the movie continued.

  • Homo erotic western

Yes it is a little grainy but what can you expect from the era? Kind, thoughtful, explaining how to open the door on the closest when the closest was still the norm. My how things have changed.
