There are introductory essays to each of the three cantiche of the Divina Commedia, as well as chapters on Dante's other works. Selected reception history is provided, discussing the commentary tradition and Dante's presence in literature in English. Excellent companion guide to study of Dante's Divine Comedy
This book is a collection of 15 essays that provide background and perspective while reading the Divine Comedy, as well as give a summary of what is known about Dante's life. Three chapters are particularly useful: Introduction to Inferno, Introduction to Purgatorio, and Introduction to Paradiso.
