If you replaced a toilet, the bolts are going to wind up too long to use standard caps. You can cut the bolts, or use these tall caps. They install easily,, just screw on. They are a little pricey, but for a one shot thing it's ok

Box said made to fit 1/4" bolts. They did not fit 1/4" bolts. Closer to fitting 3/16". I had to drill and tap to get them to fit and twist on. Lucky for me I had a drill and tap set, not everyone else will. What should have been an easy twist on and done task ended up being a job. Not what I need or expect after paying $8 for 2 pieces of plastic that did not install properly.

It prevented me from having to cut the bolts and them sliding of the flange. And then I would have likely had to reset the toilet. Fit great and went on easy. I would use again.

This is all new to me, cleaning girls knocked the cap off and I saw the hold down bolt just laying there! I managed to get the bolt standing upright and secured the nut to the porcelin portion of the toilet, just snug as to not crack the porcelin! lots of bolt sticking up, the compact cap is not going to work on this long bolt! I happen to find these tall toilet caps when doing a google search on what needs to be done on these long bolts. Is it good, do I recommend them? It worked for me and it now looks very professional AND I didn't have to cut the bolt!

After buying our retirement home we noticed the toilets had been replaced and the bolt covers were loosely sitting on top of the new bolts. Instead of cutting off the bolts these screw on covers did the job of covering the bolts and were easy to install, even for a senior.
