SynopsisInternationally acclaimed with more than 5 million copies in print, Fahrenheit 451 is Ray Bradbury's classic novel of censorship and defiance, as resonant today as it was when it was first published nearly 50 years ago. Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires... The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning...along with the houses in which they were hidden. Guy Montag enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for ten years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames...never questioned anything until he met a seventeen-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid. Then he met a professor who told him of a future in which people could think...and Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do!, For use in schools and libraries only. A totalitarian regime has ordered all books to be destroyed, but one of the book burners suddenly realizes their merit.

    Classic MUST Read !

Catch yourself looking at the date of publication! This book contains today's issues and questions in a book WAY ahead of it's time. Check it out... for a gift, a re-read... or for yourself, as a first time reader... and catch yourself wondering.... How did he do it.... writing this book WHEN?

    Not an interesting book.

I enjoyed Ray Bradbury when I was younger. Well, a couple of his books. I’ve never read Fahrenheit 451. I bought the book in acceptable condition and got that. I think it’s in poor condition as the pages are brittle and every single page has writing between the lines. The book is still readable, but I will trash it when I am finished reading it. Science Fiction is about the future. Of course this story is over 60 years old, however, the writing, although creative, goes round and round, not hard to follow, except it’s not interesting at all. I am more than half way through the book. I’ll finish it, but I can hardly wait because every line is a metaphor to the point of no point but zillions of tangents and I’m bored.

  • Good book for a good price!

I was glad to find this book for such a good price. With what is happening now it was more enjoyable to read than than years ago, when it came out.

  • In a future America, "firemen" set fires instead of putting them out - Fahrenheit 451, the temperature at which book-paper catches fire and burns.

Fahrenheit 451 is still as relevant and prescient today as it was in 1953. In fact it's more prescient and relevant today than it was then. We live in an American culture which is increasingly intolerant of different points of view. Books have been "banned" from online sellers and unpopular speech is shouted down. As in Bradbury's classic novel, when the populace is generally behind censoring views they don't like, the next logical step is for the government to make that censorship "official" by banning all books. That way government can control what society thinks, says, and does. I encourage you to buy this classic and see for yourself what I'm talking about.
