Allan Eckert is a history nut's type of author. His compelling style sweeps the reader along on the
surging events during this part of our country's story. If only schools used his books to teach history in schools, there'd be a lot of converts to US History classes.
This is the fifth book in the "Winning of America" series, beginning with "The Frontiersman" and ending with "Twilight of Empire". The series is about the history and personalities of Colonial America, from the French and Indian War through the American Revolution and the expansion into the Midwest and battles with the Native American tribes. As historical fiction, the events and characters are real while the conversations are documented, but maybe not in the exact words spoken, This series is a wonderful way to learn about our early history and the shaping of the beginning of our nation.
The paperback I purchased happens to be one of the early printings of this book from the 1980s
and is in excellent condition for its age. It was a great value for a used book.
