This DVD does not have any fantastic special features and there is no director commentary or anything like that. It is a slow, subtle, but never boring film about what parents can do to their kids (like father, like son). Those who have had alcoholic parents may connect more to this film than others because the mystery that starts about halfway through the film isn't any grander than the character study of the main characters. My only qualm is the screen time given to James Coburn. Here is the man that destroyed the main character's entire life, and yet he only gets a few lines and scenes. He makes the most out of them, however, but not as much as Nick Nolte does with his.
Sorry, I know I answered yes to the questions above, but for some reason I can’t seem to identify, the film didn’t resonate with me the way I thought it would.

affliction is not perfect, esp. the ending, but it hits close to home

This movie features an all-star cast. James Coburn and Nick Nolte give the performances of their careers. The story isn't uplifting, but the movie is a work of art. Buy and watch it over, and over. You'll notice something with each viewing.
