  • GREAT "CONVENIENCE" ALTERNATIVE TO THERMAL PASTE!

These thin graphite thermal pads are intended to be used in place of thermal paste between the CPU's heat spreader and the coldplate of a CPU cooler, where (traditionally) one would spread thermal paste. While it doesn't rival the very best thermal pastes in terms of performance, it's as good as many and more than adequate for general use (AND it's re-usable!) Therefore, it's an ideal solution for quickly swapping out a CPU for testing purposes, or for people that would rather not deal with the mess or work involved in applying thermal paste. In short, it's easy, it's effective, and it installs neatly. The product is available in 30mm×30mm (for most Intel desktop CPUs) or 40mm×40mm (for AMD Ryzen CPUs) and is VERY easily cut. In fact, with a sharp blade, it takes nothing more than the weight of the knife itself to make a clean cut through the material — (scissors work well, too) — and trimming the pad down to the size of IHS (of the CPU it's being applied to) IS advisable, because this stuff is CONDUCTIVE, so any "edges" that stick out far enough, if they were to drape over PCB component leads, could short out something! That being said, the other advantage (of a TIM like this) is that it's likely to perform just as well after years of use as it does on first application. While there are thermal pastes that may perform better, it remains to be seen if they will STILL be performing "better" after 18-24 months. In short, if you're looking for a simple CPU thermal interface for repeated use, or you don't mind spending $10 or $13 for a single permanent application, but don't want to deal with the hassle of thermal paste, then this is the answer you've been waiting for.

  • As skeptical as it sounds being a purely dry application, it indeed works!

Sounds crazy to have it all dry, and dry fitting parts with no grease at all, but this stuff actually works. Clean off your chip and heatsink with alcohol or whatever solution to clean it off and it's good to go. Tedious to get the piece centered on a chip, particularly for something like a gpu, because this stuff is conductive, and it will probably trash something if its touching semiconductors or anything other than the chip itself. All in all i'm very pleased, and I plan to change all my systems over to this. It said that this stuff is a long term solution and lasts much longer than paste. Time will tell, but with me using it so far for one week on a 190 watt tdp gpu i'm very pleased, it works just like the best paste I've ever used, but it isn't paste. it is reusable, because I had to get back into the same gpu to fix the positioning of a silicone pad on a memory chip, and I just centered the same graphite pad right over the main gpu chip as if i was putting it in for a first time again, and it works just the same! In-game my gpu sits around a good 10 degrees lower than when I had cheap paste in it.

  • Keeps temps down!

I bought this thermal pad for two laptop projects. The first was an old HP Envy 17t with a Haswell i7. These have the multiplier and other features unlocked though the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. I was bump turbo boost up to around 3.79, while not even hitting thermal throttling (power throttling would kick in before). Max temps were around 87c, much better than the hard 99c and thermal throttle I was experiencing before. The second project was a low end Inspiron 11 with an AMD A9 APU. This convertible users a copper heat spreader and no active cooling. Thermal throttling is fairly aggressive on this and and processor intensive task will really slow down the system. After removing the factory paste and using the pad, I was able to cut about 10c of the core tremps. This is far less messy than pastes and can be cut to fit the core itself.
