Since I bought this 4-year-old hard drive because it has a great reliability according to Backblaze, I will not know for several years if it has longevity as well as shorter term reliability. For now, it runs smoothly, but with a very slight ticking sound when it powers up. Would it have been better to buy a different brand of hard drive that is new? Only time will tell.

Basically I buy only enterprise drives for data archival purpose. Hitachi was chosen due to their good track record. People need to understand the difference between an enterprise drive vs a normal consumer drive. The components use are of higher quality & therefore can withstand many years of use with low failure rate. Other brands like Seagate Constellation series & Western Digital RE series were considered too but Hitachi is a little cheaper. The premium price over consumer drives is definitely worth it.
Being enterprise drives they do have a much longer MTBF. They came with 64467 hours of usage (7.3yrs) so I'll be keeping the 1yr warranty card handy. With this much usage I would not run these standalone and use some level of RAID for protection of your data (I run mirrors). Remember there is a reason these are cheap.

I have been using HGST Hitachi HDD's for the last 19 years and never any problems.

Good solid drives for backup and extra storage. I use them for my Jellyfin and Valheim servers.
