The version I purchased is copyrighted 2002. This version was written to go along with Master Frank Chan's workshop. There is a 2018 revised version titled Zhineng (Chilel) Qigong: the Body & Mind Method where Frank added in and refined the info. Even though there is a revised version, I figure this older book contains the basic knowledge and will go along with the videos by the Chan brothers from the same period I acquired earlier. I appreciate the good-sized print and pictures in the book. The organization is good and the book is clearly written. There are keys or tips and a purpose given for each movement. Toward the back of the book there are a couple of simple diagrams to help Westerners with locating the various areas of the body referred to. All in all, a great reference even if the book is somewhat dated. I have uploaded a picture of the cover and a couple sample pages.
Chi-lel/chilel qigong is from Zhineng Qigong. Chilel is more aimed at health/healing side of Zhineng. When the Chan brothers wanted to help spread Zhineng to the West a decision was made only to bring certain parts of Zhineng no doubt because there were no Western translations and some of the concepts would have been very foreign to the general Western public at that time. Zhineng/Chi-lel has apparently brought good benefits to practitioners when practiced correctly regularly. I noticed several of the Zhineng/Chilel teachers had been suffering some fairly serious health problems and when they used Zhineng/Chilel their issues were helped and in some cases cured. It is also a relaxing practice. As I was unable to find a workshop convenient to where I live, I decided to purchase videos and books. I am happy to have gotten this book at a great price and begin my Zhineng qigong practice. The revised version of this book is available at Amazon, and Barnes and Noble online for $24 so there isn't a need to pay more than that for a used copy of any version of this book. Thank you to the Chan brothers for bringing this teaching to the West.
