The computer was just as described and definitely lived up to the posting. Something that concerned me when I received it in the mail was the packaging (still 5 stars because I CAN PLAY GAMES WITH IT!). However, I've been using this nonstop for the past few weeks since receiving it and can use a variety of apps like The Sims 4 :3, lightroom and can multitask like crazy which definitely makes a difference in my other MBP which was 2008 late model with 8gb ram and intel duo core. I do find difficulties in playing FFIVX but that will come with adjsting the game specs. I am overall satisified with this computer and happy to have one that finally does everything I need it to do.

Performance: This device reminds me of a late 1990s-era Windows 98SE PC based on the amount of time it takes to boot. For approximately the same price one can obtain an i3 Windows 10 device that boots as quickly. Two older i7 Windows 7 laptops (from 2010 and 2011, now running Linux) outperform this device in speed. The keyboard has an awkward characteristic to it. If one simply needs access to the Apple ecosystem for testing or light video editing, this device is acceptable.

Greetings everyone! I am a 4 year multi-genre music producer and IT analysis. I once was a strict windows/PC user for 17 year and recently this month I decided to turn to Macintosh for my music production and IT needs. I purchased my 2012 15 inch MacBook Pro with 2.3 ghz i7 Ivy Bridge quad core processor, 8GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM, my own 256 SSD, 512MB 650GT nvidia graphics card. This. Machine. SCREAMS! I use Ableton Live 9 and Logic Pro X in 64 Bit modes and let me say I run heavy processing through tons of tracks, processors and plugins and I haven't even managed to stress this MacBook Pro AT ALL. Mind you I was running several programs while producing. I was curious to see how far I could push the macbook pros processing power via audio production, so, I downloaded the Logic Pro X and Ableton Live benchmark template/projects. Through these series of tests, I am able to load over 90+ tracks with moderate buffer rates and 10+ plugins all running at the same time. This macbook keeps up and even excels over most Mac Pros! The start up times are extremely fast, the computer is not sluggish at all and it is extremely quiet. It produces low heat and the overall battery life is 6-7 hours of normal browsing and document processing. This is an excellent laptop that is worth every penny! I recommend Gazelle's amazingly well kept macbook pros and any similar configurations out there as well!Read full review
This model was the last to include the super drive as an internal device. The next model featured the Retina display as compensation, this was not, in my opinion a good trade off, as the Retina Display was plagued with hardware failure problems and overheated frequently. Well worth the extra few dollars to get this model.

2012 MBR 15" is very upgradable. This computer looks almost new. Inserted my own ram and ssd. Very sturdy with large display. Upgraded OS X to Mojave and has been working fine.

The world may be moving away from CD/DVD media, but this last MacBook Pro with the drive is a gem. My 2nd iteration of this model and it's a solid performer that's also user upgradable...another 'feature' Apple chose to remove in later years. Love the machine, truly dislike the company.

I bought this MacBookPro as my first foray into the mac world. I wanted one for web design and audio recording, but I couldn't afford a brand new machine. The lack of retina display wasn't a big deal to me as even this model still has higher resolution than my previous Dell. After updating to El Capitan, and upgrading the ram to 16gb(Apple claims that 8gb is the max, but I can confirm that it is using 16gb with no problems), this is a beast of a laptop. I've had no issues with it, and learning the OS X ecosystem has been easier than I was afraid it might be. In the future I plan to upgrade this to a SSD, and can't wait to see the performance increase. Based on my experiences, THIS IS THE WAY TO GO IN 2016!!! Use the money that you save for upgrading the ram, HDD, and purchasing software.

There was nothing “fully functional” about the MacBook Pro that I received. Aside from the case damage that I expected it to have upon arrival the battery was completely dead and would not hold a charge. It had to be plugged up to even stay on. The left speaker was broken and did not work. The HDD was on its last leg and would need to be replaced. I ran into multiple roadblocks trying to install Catalina and that’s where I learned just how adults of a laptop I purchased was. I’m sure there are other issues I haven’t found yet and I’m not sure I even want to keep it at this point.

Very happy with this system. I had a nice 2011 Macbook Pro with 8GB of RAM. Apple rigged the system so it could not be upgraded with more RAM. So after much research I discovered I could upgrade the 2012 Macbook Pro to 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD drive. I got an I7 processor with stripped memory and hard drive. I threw away the drive and memory and put in my 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD drive from Other World Computing and now I have a SMOKING fast Macbook Pro for a fraction of the price of a new comparable unit. I decided to get a 15" unit rather than 17" to make it easier to carry around. Very happy with this system and it should be my go-to laptop for several years to come.

Even in 2022 the mid 2012 15inch MacBook Pro is king for general computing. With the option of very easily adding 16gb of ram and a ssd puts this particular machine above newer more expensive laptops at half the cost (at time of this review). Using the opencore legacy patcher allows the instillation of both Big Sur and Monterey, which work beautifully with the available i7 4c/8t processors in the 15inch models. These machines are still capable of working with the latest version of GarageBand and doing light video editing. The Mid 2012 15inch MacBook Pro is very much the superior choice over a used MacBook air or even some used underpowered iMac models with their flawed failing AMD graphics.
