Used this to put a newer radio into a 1988 GMC Safari. It's plastic but it is thick and solid feeling. The fit was good. It also has a good ability to adjust how much the face of the radio sticks out or is recessed. I installed it with the face flush and it worked great. It was actually harder to find a radio that has a short enough depth for the Safari console than it was to find this item. I used the very cheap XO Vision XD107BT Car Stereo MP3/FM Receiver with Bluetooth from Walmart. Yes, it's probably of mediocre quality and may not have a long life; but it fits the very shallow space in the Safari console. Also, it works, it has decent sound, and the tuner picks up even pretty weak stations.
