The GXT5000 two-way radio comes with a variety of accessories, including a desktop charger, battery pack, AC adapter, belt clip, holster with swivel, and carrying case. Charge the battery pack via the desktop charger or the AC adapter. After charging, an indicator on the display keeps track of the power in the batteries. Additional accessories available include headsets, boom mics, and acoustic ear tubes. The functionality of the GXT5000 promises a user-friendly experience, and the backlit LCD display makes it easy to see the channels. Navigate between high and low power settings to conserve battery power or boost your coverage, and the battery life extender can help keep your battery pack working longer. The radios have a channel scan, auto squelch, keypad lock, keystroke tones, five call alerts, and hands-free operation. The optimal coverage conditions include open rural areas, flat spaces, and over water. GMRS channels provide the best coverage, and make sure to keep the radio set to “Hi” power. Greatest radio Midland ever discontinued!
This radio, the Midland GXT 5000, is a great handheld FRS/GMRS that rises above the "toy" grade radios they sell in pairs in bubble packs. Professional grade with all of the right accessories for street use by those who need a heavy duty worksite radio. Yes, they are pricey, but like I said, they are not toys you let your kids play with. These will last for a good long time with their 2200 milliamp lithium ion batteries, and being waterproof, don't care if it gets a wet. They are so good that I bought four of them! Spare batteries are available at good prices. Same with accessories. Now the bad news. They are discontinued by Midland, again! Yes, for the second time, Midland has taken them off the market. Hopefully, they change their minds again and start to sell this model again.
