About this product

Product Information

Good training is not crisis management; it is what you need to do before the need to discipline arises. From successful parents, learn how to train your children and build relationships before the need to discipline arises. This book is not about discipline, nor problem children. The emphasis is on the training of a child before the need to discipline arises. It is apparent that, though they expect obedience, most parents never attempt to train their child to obey. They wait until his behavior becomes unbearable and then explode. With proper training, discipline can be reduced to 5% of what many now practice. As you come to understand the difference between training and discipline, you will have a renewed vision for your family no more raised voices, no contention, no bad attitudes, fewer spankings, a cheerful atmosphere in the home, and total obedience from your children."

    From WHAT to HOW

In raising our two daughters, in the beginning my main source for reference was Proverbs and any New Testament verses that dealt with acceptable behaviors and virtues. Still yet, there was a need for "how to", not just "what". I knew I wanted to raise children to be happy, well-adjusted, balanced, sensible adults who would not get into trouble, would never need to move back to Parentals, be able to take care of themselves and more importantly would have a soft and open heart to the Lord. In being able to train them with sound principles, the aim and goals of bringing them up resulted in all the positive hopes, dreams and goals established at the beginning. For me, that prayer and hope was answered to a large extent with this book. It made sense to me. The premise that "Training" is the foundation for developing a life of well-being was exactly the "How" I was looking for. My college major was Family Relations and Child Development. That offered some help, but could not cover and apply to the everyday situations with your own children. I did find other resources, even THERE ARE NO BAD DOGS, by Barbara Woodhouse. I might receive some raised eyebrows on that, but there is a lot of similarity in the training of small children and pups. ( It is well established that dogs can reach a 5 year old mentality of a human.) Maybe I did have to tweak that a little, but it worked. I reiterate, " I needed the HOW." Best wishes to all who seek the HOW, to support the What, you establish as your hopes, dreams and goals.

Book on how to abuse a child

I bought this used because I wanted a copy but didn't want to further fund that ministry. My nephew has some serious mental health issues and he brought up this book a few times, his parents used it. I wanted to see what was in it. It is a book on how to abuse a child. Anyone that follows this nut job is an absolute fool with serious mental disabilities. Shame on anyone using these practices. Kids have died as a result of this whacko's ideals.

  • Practical, no nonsense book.

The authors of this book have a knack for teaching the practical side of child training. We used it years ago as a guideline to raise our 5 children who are now responsible, loving adults, some with children of their own who hope to raise their kids using the principles in this book. Some claim this book trains parents to be abusive, however, we found if you apply it with love and joy for the purpose of what is best for the children, it is no such thing, but rather very loving. We don't totally agree on everything, such as the author's comments about not having a television. (We view the TV as a tool that can be used for good or bad, but definitely limited its use and spent time outside having fun and doing other creative things.) As a friend of mine said, "You need to read a book like you eat a chicken leg--eat the meat and throw out the bones." Definitely worth the read.

  • Lot of valuable information

I read this book many years ago, and have been a fan every since. I always recommend this book to parents that are raising their children. I have to say most parents are not drawn to the advice and instruction that is given by the author. I have to admit that some of the ideas in the book I did not choose to do, but for the most part the idea of training before discipline is totally accurate. I love the way the book is written, and I would love to meet the authors.I have given this book to mothers that were struggling in the area of training and I am witness that it did help. Thanks so much for giving a book of guidance to parents. i am now purchasing another book bc I have given away the others that I had. Thanks again. A discipline loving Mom and Grammy that am blessed and happy that my children have grown into loving responsible adults.

  • Training is parent's responsibility, and obedience to God's Word

Every parent or future parent need to read this book. It helps me a lot. My son changed his behavior after only 3 days of training. He is happier now and more confident. I thank the Lord for the authors of this book.

We have read this book many times over the years. We don't agree with all of it but the training techniques are good. It made a difference in how we raised our children and in their behavior.

  • One of the very best child training resources

This little book helps us learn to train our children rather than merely react when they do something wrong. Failure to train our children can have literally fatal consequences. A well-trained child is a delight to be around!
