I am used to using Pentax Limited lenses as well as DA* Zoom lenses. I love those. However, not so for those consumer grade lenses (such as DA 18-135 lens) for image quality. I have hesitated to get this 16-85 lens for quite a while. Recently, I decide to get an used HD DA16-85 to try (with a very good deal). Surprisingly, Its image quality is very close to those DA* lenses. The zoom range is the most attractive in all the features it offers. The focus (w/ DC motor) is quick and accurate. It is light-weight (comparing to all those heavy DA*s), weather seal (better than DA Limited). It is a great walk-around all purpose lens. Of cause, it has a small Max Aperture (f/3.5-5.6) making it a bit difficult to shoot with low ISO at low light conditions. Also, the image seams lacking of "micro-contrast".Read full review

Very sharp throughout, easy to handle and relatively light. Some barrel distortion and small amount of CA at wide angle but easily correctable. Minor softness on edges at 85mm but most people won't notice. Excellent combo with 55-300 wr plm or earlier version. Way better than kit lens and works very well on k-50 & k-70. Great travel lens, usually on my camera most of the time as a easy go to lens.

If the wide side down further to 14mm is petfect. Pentax should provide a focus ring with actual distance figures is more suitable for manual focus in dark situation. I take this lens with my Pentax K5 travel to Sorpporo and Otaru. There's no problem to take photos at Powder Snow Hokkaido approx. -7。C. This lens is best buy for Pentax user.
