Nice solid state amp
I purchased this amp because my band plays a lot of small gigs and I wanted something light and reliable. I've been using a Mesa-Boogie amp that sounds amazing but weighs a ton and has all kinds of problems with power and what not at gigs. I thought that I'd give this baby a try. It can't hold a candle to the Mesa with respect to its clean sound or its distorted sound. But that isn't really a serious criticism. The Mesa is just amazing when it works. This Orange amp sounds really good and takes pedals well. It's also super light. It isn't that loud on its own. But it's speaker can take boost and if you mic the amp that doesn't really matter. The tuner appears really precise, but isn't. Still, it is nice to have as a back up. One criticism is that you can't mute the output when using the tuner. I haven't used the effects loop yet. But that is another nice feature. All in all, I'd say that this is a great amp for the money, particularly the money I paid for a refurbished one. It's light and can easily handle small gigs. It's got a great speaker and handles pedals well. You couldn't use it on its own for any serious gig. But with a decent pedal board, it can work just fine. Great little amp with simple controls
So far I'm very pleased with the Orange 35RT amp. (I've had it for a couple of weeks and used it for practice and one gig (mic'd through PA) with my 3-piece band.) It's plenty loud. I also like the simplicity - two channels, tone control, reverb, and that's it. The clean channel sounds great. The dirty channel can get very dirty, but the gain can also be set so that the effect is more subtle (the way I like it).
