The Schrade Old Timer Liner Lockblade Clip Folder, 7Cr17 High Carbon Steel 294OT, an honest review

The Schrade Old Timer Liner Lockblade Clip Folder, 7Cr17 High Carbon Steel 294OT is a budget price light weight but sturdy Gentleman's knife that has a very sharp clip point 3.1 inch blade which opens easily one handed with a right handed thumb stud & locks tightly without any blade wiggle. Being a liner lock knife It does require 2 handed closing but that is easy enough & the pocket clip which is very tight is easily unscrewed if like me you wish to carry it in a thin pocket sheath. The brass bolsters are highly polished with a mirror finish & the delrin handles very attractive & gripable I recommend this knife for pocket carry when you don't need a large utility / working knife on you.

Spend a few bucks more and buy quality

These are knock off's of what once was a fairly good quality American made knife company. Having a bought a couple from ebay and cabela's. Both had deep nick's in the blade which after some wheel shapening I was able to grind past and resharpen. The steel quality if very poor. And the over all build and feel is not what these knives once were.

  • Give it time

I was disappointed at first. The lock wouldn't engage, the finger stud seemed to be in wrong spot and pocket clip came loose... But it looked good and is finished out good. Oiled it up and worked it some and put a little lock tight on the clip screws. Got used to the thumb stud position and now it's a nice carry knife. You can't beat it for $20.

  • Seriously junk. Please don't buy.

The best thing about the product is the pocket clip. Carried it the first day and didn't use it but was impressed with the clip and pocket friendly carry. Finish was ok and knife seemed fine. Until I attempted to cut a small piece of cord. With very light pressure the blade folded backwards toward my hand. I stopped in shock. Upon inspection I noticed the backspacer that acts as a blade stop was cut at an angle and actually allows the blade to fold over backwards with minimal pressure. Dangerous junk. It's an unfortunate waste of 15 dollars of earned cash. Many other better options for even this price point.

  • Nice little pocket knife.

I REALLY like this knife. Seemed equal in fit and finish to USA made Schrades. Don't know how well the steel stacks up against the USA made knives, but this one came hair spitting sharp out of the box, no need for touch up. One of the sharpest knives I've recently purchased. I like the old fashioned style w/ modern touches like thumb stud and pocket clip (clip is removable). I do wish they would offer a good quality Carbon steel blade, or 440C instead of the 440A equivalent used in most Chinese made knives. But I've found (regretfully) that many Chinese knives are improving in quality and materials compared to some of the American made products (incl. Buck). All they need to do is improve the quality of their steel and they've got it knocked. I definitely recommend this knife and wish to get another when I can.

  • Old Timer knife

When I was young I always remembered my Daddy toting an Old Timer in his pocket and I wanted to get one. I've carried Case knives for years but they are expensive these days. I love the knife so far. Seems to be of good quality. I didn't care for the pocket clip so I just simply removed it. Would recommend to anyone.

  • A good knife.

I got this knife for my neighbor. He loved it dearly and used it everyday. He lost it however and was heartbroken. I got him another one and he is so grateful. It is a good knife.
