  • Good value and fairly easy install

My Malibu's original ball joint went bad after 100k miles, and as best I can tell, you can't buy just the joint separate from the lower control arm and install it yourself. Not a big deal. The full arm is easier to replace anyway, and you're getting two new bushings at the same time, which are getting pretty old at this point. All this for about 2/3 the price for a mechanic to just drive the car into the garage before doing anything. Five bolts are removed to do this job (loosen the bolt through the rear bushing to get more flexibility). A little tricky wiggling things into position, but not too bad. After the initial replacement, I realized that jacking the arm a bit might have moved the antisway bar a bit out of the way. (Although I understand that the V6 of this generation [mine is 2009] is more difficult for reaching the nuts for the rear bushing.)
