One of the best movies that I have seen in years. Character and plot driven rather than gimmicks and computer generated game-like scenes like most movies today. Of course, I am a fan having read all three books, seen this movie at the theater and just bought all three Swedish releases a couple of days ago. Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer and Skarsgard were all great, as were other actors. I don't usually watch movies or read books more than once; however, I plan to with these. A very mature movie; not for prudes (Banned in India--their loss). Like a realistic James Bond type of movie; not the boring repetitive pablum those movies became. If I lost this movie, I would have to buy another copy. Even my friends who saw it with me at the movies wanted to see it again, you just don't get all you want from the first time. Many of the scenes are so good you just want to see them again to catch more of the nuances of the the scenes and the acting. The first movie I have seen in awhile with some meat to it; the books too. I was so bored with the first Lord of the Rings movie I wished at the time that I had left after the first hour, nothing new was forthcoming in the second, long, long hour. It was like watching someone play a Mario game; I even predicted in my mind several scenes, like, I'll bet they will be going through a cave next, or through the snow, or down a long river, and another attack by the same guys.......I wished for my money back from that one. I never bothered with the sequels, though I heard they were much better. I felt the same about the Twilight series, and I love True Blood and vampire themes generally. I had really liked Kristen Stewart's earlier movies and feel sad for her, though I am sure she is making big bucks for it. By comparison The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had some real mystery to it and some real plot twists and real surprises. Notice the word "real" as opposed to boring and contrived. While, maybe not earth shaking, at least interesting.Read full review
The cast is what brought me to buy this movie and what a gem. Daniel Craig brings much to the film with the non-James Bond flare. And this young girl played by Rooney Mara has such a quirky presence until you find out why she is this brilliant hacker with a heinous past. Once the journalist meets the hacker for a mysterious search for an old money tycoon's niece who disappeared 40 years ago. Lots of twists and turns in this bizarre family there is much more dirt than anyone could imagine. Some strong sexual content but it all draws an extremely entertaining look at old family secrets.

This production was as good as the original Swedish film, but not as good as the book. Although I would buy this DVD again.
