SynopsisThis work demonstrates the characteristics of the Rapidograph pen, its techniques and their use to the artist. The text includes advice on cross-hatching and stippling, gestural lines and rendering drawings, plus a section on the applications of the new permanent colour inks., Here, for the first time, is a book devoted to a medium that has gained increasing popularity among artists who work in pen and ink. Originally designed for architects and engineers, the technical pen moves smoothly and easily over the paper's surface and offers a precise and predictable line quality that can't be matched by any other type of pen, permitting both loose, gestural sketching and tighter, more deliberate renderings that make it an ideal tool for fine artists, illustrators, and graphic artists alike.

  • Comprehensive, easy read

Prefer to put a pen to paper more than create a digital line? Then this book might be for you. A comprehensive, step by step book detailing the ins and outs of the Rapidograph technical pen, the illustrations and descriptions of the do's and don'ts of the subject are quite striking, as well as very helpful to the novice, and a good refresher for the experienced artist. Taken as a series of lessons, the patience and technique to use the pen and its various features/options the book excels. I wouldn't personally sit down and consume it in a single sitting, as the techniques themselves begin to blur together in my mind... but when separated in lesson style chapters, it's quite compelling stuff. I got mine for $12, but it'd be worth the cover price. I love computers, but I do have to think about what wonders would've been created by hand by the artists of the late 20th and early 21st century at the peak of that art movement instead of seeing what everyone has done at the dawn of the digital one....... If that's something that remotely interests you, even philosophically, this is an entertaining read.
