About this product

Product Information

The Actiontec Q1000 gigabit wireless modem and router provides lightning-fast access to network devices. The built-in firewall can be customized, and it features intrusion detection capability to protect your computer. Hackers and malicious programs will be stopped in their tracks when you have this device giving you warning of harmful network activity. The Stateful Packet Inspection feature also helps prevent DoS and DDoS attacks, while this router gives you control over domain and URL blocking, MAC address filtering, port forwarding, and date/time scheduling. This strong signal is capable of being protected from unauthorized users while easily allowing authorized users in. Featuring the WEP password encryption capability, the Actiontec routers use secure passwords to block out unwanted connections. Those with permission are able to automatically connect after one-time authorization via a secure password. The N radio and gigabit Ethernet switch installed in this unit were specially designed for the CenturyLink and Qwest DSL. The Actiontec Q1000 modem is powerful enough to handle multiple applications. It has 32 MB of flash memory and 64 MB of SDRAM. With either wired or wireless connectivity, the 4-port routers with dual antennas support multimedia platforms such as HDTV, voice over WiFi, and media sharing as well as online gaming. You can also download large files, such as purchased movies or podcasts, and stream shows. The 2.4 GHz modem will make sure your speeds keep up even when you have other devices connected simultaneously. The smart antenna technology improves whole home coverage and causes fewer dead spots. It will assign an internal IP address to each of your connected devices, and it works with both static and dynamic IP connections. The Actiontec modems support 802.11 technology and it's retroactively compatible with other protocols like VDSL and ADSL 2+/2, allowing for more flexibility and less need to purchase more devices. With the ability to handle your entire home, this Q1000 router can perform multiple operations from one room to the next without needing to be moved. Featuring Java compatibility, the gigabit wireless N router can handle the Java Virtual Machine as well as Java Runtime Software. This allows you to have more options for applications, security, and automation when using the device. It's compatible with both Apple and Windows devices, and almost all machines can use the Actiontec Q1000. Those with a PC or Macintosh with an Ethernet or a previous ISP connection that's 802.11b or 802.11n can also connect. This entire package comes in a small size of 8.6 by 8.4 by 2.1 inches, so it can fit virtually anywhere in the house. Weighing only 1.2 pounds, it's very light and easy to handle when changing rooms or connecting for the first time. Setup of this hardware is fast and easy. Simply plug in the telephone filters and connect the large internet cord from the service provider modem to the Qwest DSL device. You plug the router into a wall socket using the A/C adapter and power supply. Once the router is plugged in, the green light will show power. The firmware will allow you to configure settings and set up authorized users as well as passwords. Just enter your username and password to control all relevant settings. The web browser Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher is compatible with the control panel as are Safari and Firefox.

    Easy to use, Very fast

This unit is nice in that it has the dual antennae for much better signal strength. Since we live in a metal trailer it is needed to get through walls. It is very easy to setup and use, has great features and makes no noise. The only issue i see is the admin timeout. it times out without any warning and there is no setting to disable it or change it. so you have to keep logging in again and again while setting it up. I would definitely purchase one again or recommend it to others.

    Requires manual config for Centurylink

If you are looking for a low cost backup DSL router, you can consider the Q1000. But you will need to know how to manually change the VPI/VCI settings to get it to work. Centurylink bought Quest in 2011, so anything with the Quest name on it is at least 10 years old now. The Q1000 does do 802.11n but only in the 2.5GHz band. By default, the VPI/VCI under WAN settings in the router I received were 0/32. Other regions use other settings. You must Google them to learn what is correct for your location. In Central Florida, Centurylink uses 8/35. The autoconfig feature of Centurylink does not work with this router. You must connect your laptop to the router with an ethernet cable and log into the admin console to change these settings. If you don't know how to do this, don't buy this router. One more thing, the Q1000 is on Centurylink's list of "soon to be retired" routers, so don't expect any support from them for this unit.

  • Q1000 modem

The Q1000 modem is suitable for ADSL, ADSL 2+, and VDSL internet service. If you can find a good used model you will save yourself some money over buying a brand new one or renting one at $10/month from your internet service provider.

  • problems with Actiontec Q1000 for Qwest Wireless N VDSL Modem Router Actiontec Q1000

I was told by Century Link installers it is no longer supported by Century Link. It arrived without the Phone wire.

  • Good alternative to save money on modem rental

I've been using this modem now for about a month and it works great. Am saving $10 a month versus renting the modem provided by CenturyLink. I had to call Centurylink a couple times before I finally got a rep who knew what she was doing and was able to get the modem set up correctly so that it works with their service. Before that, I was beginning to wonder if it could be used, though their website said it could. Once it got configured properly, it's been working just fine. Based on my experience thus far, I recommend this modem.

  • Takes a licking..... keeps on ticking!

Bought this online and got a great value. had the same unit but had firmware from Frontier Telecom that caused the unit to drop the internet access when attached to Centurylinks system. for those interested... this is a "V1000W" when its from Frontier telecom, and Q1000A when its made for Centurylink Telecom. (formerly "Qwest Telecom") when buying these used, be sure to do a hard reset on it to clear out the former owners credentials. If that doesn't work, manually enter your credentials in the PPP Protocol page.

  • Best DSL modem!

I plugged it in, configured it easily, and it's been running rock solid now for 2 weeks! In fact, the wireless is EXCELLENT in and even outside of my home even though we have 13 devices always using it (especially with Plex)! I would buy this again!

  • Great value for a used DSL Modem/Router

For a good used DSL Modem/router, the Q1000 (with power adapter) is an excellent value priced around $20 to $25.

  • cheap and good router

the best deal for israel customers as the cheapest router on ebay. the product comes with fw on chinese but can be easily flashed on english version. works fine with vdsl. works fine both as a bridge or as stand alone router , much better then the vtech our isp gives us.

  • Great product, only limited by Centurylink

Worked out of the box and has been reliable. Century link will not allow the same speed because it is not a leased version. They need a technician to come out and plug it into the wall. Just a money grab from them, but I accept the slower speed as I am not getting nailed $10 a month to lease their damn modem
