I was not expecting much when I picked up this circa 30 year old power amp. I just needed something in a pinch to make sound while sorting out my system, but it has exceeded my expectations. In a nutshell, it provides a natural, organic sound with an extended, open top end. Tube-like in the best sense of the phrase. Plenty of power for my small room, and good gain for my transformer volume control. The design is very nice, too - fully dual mono with good capacitance in the power supply. Runs cool. The biggest downside is the funky twist-lock speaker outputs. The don't give a secure bite on my cat-5 conductors and are known to be fragile as well.

This is a GREAT little amp. I have owned one since 1989 (that's right about 27 years!)/ It is rock solid. Very stable. Very clean. Its also very versatile. In the past I have had it paired with a Conrad Johnson Sonographe SC22 pre-amp and Klipsch, Forte speakers. I also used to use it as a desktop PC studio monitor amp (paired with the same SC22 but with small studio monitor speakers (NHT One's)). Now I use the amp to power a second Zone connected to a Denon AVR-X3200W receiver. The A-B buttons are nice because you can connect 2 sets of speaker (which I sort of use as a 3rd zone) especially if you use an inline volume control with each pair of speakers.

I'm surprised at the excellence of the sound of this amp. I should not be, because before I purchased it, I researched this make and model, and found it highly rated. However, even with that expectation, once I plugged it and played it, I was struck by the clarity of the sound. This highs are exquisite, detailed and pleasurable to listen to. The mids are pure, and the bass impactful. Transients are immediate. I can't believe such quality is available for such a low price. I will definitely purchase Adcom again when I move up to a larger set of speakers. No need to spend 10k $$ on monoblocks when I can get sound this good from Adcom. Highly recommended. And, by the way, I'm an audiophile, with finicky taste, not easily pleased. Yet, this delights me.
Great old amps. If you/re connecting expensive speakers to it, you probably want to consider adding a DC speaker protection circuit. No built in protection.
