A year ago I purchased a 135w 7.2 network AV receiver to handle my new home's 5.1 theater activities, but since most new receivers under $3,000.00 USD do NOT output digital signals to 2nd/3rd/4th zones, I have been using an old, non-remote controlled 100 watt receiver to drive my whole home analog audio system. I wanted all my devices to be controlled by my universal remote, but rather than buy a cheap networkable receiver to do it(<250 USD), I opted for a 5.1 pre-amp to handle the direct audio channels (2 channel mode) with the option of serving as a backup for my 7.2 monster receiver for emergencies and/or eventual replacement. What I like: 1. Provides a very clean signal. 2. Tunes AM/FM better than my new name brand networkable receiver(starts with an "O" and sounds like on-queue). 3. Provides remote capabilities. 4. I hooked up my old 100watt receiver to serve as the amplifier for this unit (until I can find a triggerable 5 channel Adcom amp), and the sound is much richer than before as the receiver's volume is set high and the pre-amp controls the signal hit the amp (with the amp plugged into the switched outlets on the pre-amp for remote control on/off switching). Why I chose Adcom: 1. Remote controllable. 2. Clean, direct signal paths. 3. Non-nonsense approach. 4. I purchased an Adcom GFP-555 II earlier for my computer room and enjoyed the clean signal and easy control for switching inputs/control outputs.Read full review
This unit even though it looks brand new will not power up. It is receiving power from the outlet but it does not show a display or any lights to show it is receiving power. The unswitched outlet on the back panel has current and powers up my CD player when plugged in but all other functions of this pre-amp are dead. Very disappointed! I would highly recommend this unit if it worked but sadly it dosen't. You can see quality in the appearance but that is where it ends with this unit.
