SynopsisThe Barnes Foundation, established by scientist, entrepreneur, and educator Dr. Albert C. Barnes in 1922, is home to a legendary art collection. Barnes assembled one of the world's largest and finest groups of post-impressionist and early modern paintings, with holdings by such luminaries as Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, Rousseau, Modigliani, Soutine, Manet, Monet, Seurat, Degas, Van Gogh, and Gauguin. The Foundation's collection also holds significant examples of American art, including works by Demuth, Glackens, and the Prendergasts; African sculpture; Native American ceramics, jewelry, and textiles; Asian paintings, prints, and sculptures; medieval manuscripts and sculptures; Old Master paintings by El Greco, Rubens, Titian, and others; ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art; and American and European decorative arts and metalwork. A great book filled with information on the Barnes Foundation with fine visuals of the collection;handsomely bound
Masterworks: The Barnes Foundation is a terrific book. Many years ago. while studying painting at the Boston Museum School I met and studied with Francesco Carbone. a prominent painter who had taught design at the Barnes Foundation during the late 1940s. The book has rekindled many memories of Frank's lectures on the Barnes Foundation, particularly through Dr. Barnes. Frank's meeting with Henri Matisse one summer.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

When you love art history
This book does an excellent job of refreshing my memories of this wonderful gallery. I loved seeing photos of actual notes that were written by Mr. Barnes. He was very fortunate to be a part of a great era of collecting Impressionist art. Since you are not allowed to take photos in the museum, this was a great way to see the paintings whenever I want. It is also good for someone that doesn't have an opportunity to visit the Barnes Foundation to learn about his take on art and and his vision for his collection.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
