The very first Tom Petty concert I went to see was the "Echo" promotional concert. It was also my 16 year old daughter's very first concert ever. We saw Tom at the Gorge in George Washington and my daughter & I were already familiar with songs from Echo whereas most of the audience hadn't heard it yet. Tom pulled his "Mad Hatter" hat out of a trunk and proceeded to do "Don't come around here no more". Oh Tom, I love you! Soooo, this CD reminds me of that wonderful concert and then years later this CD also helped me to get through a very hard divorce. I would grab a six pack and head out to the sticks, put in this CD and cry my eyes out. Echo is a memory for me and it's very dear to my heart.
I'm a Tom Petty fan from 1976 when Damn the Torpedoes came out. Echo has many catchy, non commercial, and technically excellent tunes, that you would never hear if you didnt listen to this CD. It's a "sleeper", of a CD. Another recent find was a Mudcrutch CD....Mudcrutch was the name of the band before they became the Heartbreakers. Same thing as Echo, a few tracks that you find yourself hitting repeat on the CD player, cause ya just want to hear the song again. Tom Petty also has a box set DVD, CD...which is a beginning to now history of the band. Very cool. If you like Tom Petty and the HB's, you'll like Echo...
This album is just one good song after another. I like to play the whole cd complete. I think it is under appreciated. There will never be another Tom Petty. If you’re a Tom Petty fan and this is not in your library it should be.

This cd is kind of in the middle. It's not the early, young, eager Tom Petty. It's also not the mature, confident Tom Petty. It's somewhere in the middle. All the songs are written by Tom, except one. "I don't wanna fight" is written by Mike. He sings this one also. This cd is good for real Petty fans who want to build their collection but if you are only going to buy a few of his cds-get the box set or one of the greatest hits cds. Definately not my favorite Petty cd but it is good.
The only problem I found with item is the case was cracked, should be shipped in more protective package.
