To fairly review this movie, two separate perspectives have to be taken into account. If you're new to the character of Man-Thing, know nothing of the comics, this movie is a pretty standard slasher/revenge story. It's a decent B-movie. The hero cop, new to town, first-encounter romantic interest female character, evil corporate "villain" who might as well have a black top hat and twirling moustache, a supernatural killing machine that is barely seen until the final act when everything picks up to a boil- very standard structure. Not all that great, but not too bad. You know what you're getting and it's fun enough for that. If you're a fan of the comics, enjoy the character, or prop as it's often called, and want to see the movie of your beloved franchise, it's a travesty. The pitiable, sorrowful ruined man of a creature has been reduced to standard revenge-story fare with a completely new back-story. Despite being the titular star, it is barely even in the movie, maybe three minutes of screen time. Practically everything from the comics is gone save for a few character names and the general idea from one of the old issues used as a back-drop for frame. Most of the characters and concepts were written new for the movie, including the creature itself. My recommendation depends upon which camp you're in. The former might just enjoy an average slasher fare flick with their friends. The latter might just give it to their dog for a chew toy.Read full review
The disc was in excellent quality but there was a paper sticker on the case itself, which was annoying to remove without leaving the glue residue. For the most part, however. Quite good.

I can see the person who wrote the review before me clearly doesn't have an education or clean decency....anyway... This film is about a lesser known character in the Marvel comic universe. The character really isn't anything worth making a movie about, but none the less, here it is. Man-Thing is really just a swamp monster who is supposed to protect the land from people who destroy it - like the guy drilling for oil in this film. What ensues is a b-movie without much direction or plot...like for instance the fact that the new sheriff (the main character) falls practically INSTANTLY in love with the main female character. This film seems to straddle the line as far as what genre it wants to take...but clearly it was intended to be a horror film. While the elements of horror are present, it wasn't executed well enough to really be considered much of a scare flick. It's really slow paced film with some poor action antics and it's just a story not worth telling, considering that Man-Thing was basically just a character who made appearances in other comics. It's not as well developed or acted as the other Marvel movies, I enjoyed parts of it, but overall it's just like those really poor movies you'll see on Sci Fi channel at 2 am. Even hardcore Marvel fans may find this one hard to swallow.Read full review
Man-Thing is what a B-movie should be. Fun, easy to sit through and entertaining. Most reviews that I'd read bashed this movie; the reputation it's earned is unjust. The actors in this movie were entertaining and the script, direction and production designs were all on the mark. the creature itself was a marvel, no pun intended, in look and design. The main characters served the movie's needs quite nicely--exactly what B-movie heroes should be: brave, observant and steely-nerved. The supporting players are fun, especially the two hillbilly brothers--they were very funny... and being a hillbilly myself, I was not in least bit offended by the somewhat sterotypical portrayal. So, in closing, if you want to watch a fun, harmless and surprisingly good B-movie---by all means, watch Man-Thing!
Decent movie, didn't spend much time showing the main character and did a very poor job on telling the characters background
