One the surface, this is one of the worst series 've ever seen. 1st: Many of the characters have completely different personalities from episode to episode. 2nd: I assume that the dog, Wee Jock, had a big roll in the books, but he's barely noticed in the TV series. 3rd: You know it’s a bad sign when the writer turns to totally impractical, unbelievable, and even supernatural story lines. 4th: There are episodes where relevant characters are absent with no attempts to explain why.
This isn't the only British drama I've seen that just wouldn't have survived in America. It never would have made it past the pilot.
But if you put that all a side, you will develop a fondness for the characters, and despite yourself, you'll won't be able to stop from laughing out loud.
Quirky, colorful, off center, unusual, interesting
Quirky. Not for everyone. Very colorful characters in a small Scottish village. Even though Hamish is a lawman, really not a crime/mystery series, but always something interesting going on.
