Butter in the spout (under the screw-on tip) hardens and is hard to get to melt when the unit is plugged in. I will run that part under hot water before I plug the unit in. That way, the butter in the tip has already melted when the butter in the container is ready to use. The sprayer is messy; it drips but I just put a napkin under it when I set it down. It makes great coverage on popcorn using the spray tip.

I would suggest covering cooled butter with plastic wrap and storing in fridge, and washing all misting parts before the butter solidifies. That way you are ready the next time you get a jones for fresh, buttered popcorn.
