The last few years it has been harder and harder to get cables to find the correct COM port on computers. In the old days it was pretty easy. Now you got to use a USB port/COM port and have to make sure you have the correct chip in the cable. This cable works great. It is now so easy to program my scanner. I can do it online and make changes in seconds. You will need software. I am using ARC433 software. Jim Howard N0UWY

It is very complicated to program for your local frequencies if with the USB link cable and software. Also you really need to have an outdoor antenna for it function well.

Works perfectly with my Radio Shack PRO-164. Didn't want to risk trying to make my own. Didn't want the uncertainty of an off-brand. Every Radio Shack brand item I've ever used as been top notch. This is no exception. Get it while they last! Poor management is forcing Radio Shack out of business.

Bought a Radioshack Pro-2096 recently. Got the software to program it, ordered the cable I was needing. Was easy to use and also plug and play. Only complaint was that the lights on the cable didn't illuminate to show that it was connected, as my computer gave no signs other than the initial plug in sound. But not going to give a bad rating because of a feature I would like on it.

This item came 3 days early and in great condition. No complaints. Also had instructions with it to know how to use it with my scanner!!! Followed instructions and it worked perfectly with my scanner. I was able to not only get all the frequencies and info off my old scanner but was also able to send it to my new scanner and now because of this cord my new scanner works perfectly just like my old one did!!!) Thank you!!
