The AMD Phenom II X4 series isn't the fastet of CPU's today, however if you have an old AMD based computer with AM2/AM2+/AM3 socket running with the likes of either af single core or dual core CPU, then you can bring the PC back to life in current programs, applications where the response will be much snappier and you can perform more tasks simultaneously. It even has the power to run some newer game titles quite well. Good CPU, but don't pay too much.

When it arrived, I installed it in my desktop, and it booted right away without any problems. I used it to update my BIOS so I could use my amd fx-6300 6 core cpu, but for the price its a decent cpu on its own.

Upgraded an acquaintances PC from a dual core Athlon II to this quad core Phenom II. So far it seems like a good upgrade. Biggest concern was the lack of L3 cache, but I believe the Athlon II didn't have any either. Of course this day and age a Phenom II 840 is pretty long in the tooth. But a lot of these old processors will still perform wonderfully doing everyday tasks as well as some gaming. I didn't put any heavy lifting on this cpu or the Athlon II to compare. But it's a dual-core to a quad-core plus a boost in frequency. For the price I'm not going to complain and I doubt the end user will either.

upgraded an old desktop from a phemon 1 x4 2.5, snapier performance for sure, well worth the price. this isn't a game machine, but for a desktop at work it's plenty good, performance with kubuntu OS is more than enough.

I used this as a replacement for a Phenom 9750, and it is 25% faster or more, depending on the task or test. It will allow me to get longer use out of my old motherboard. 5 stars!
